If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.– Romans 10:9-10

I. Confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord

II. Believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead

For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” — Romans 10:13

“The Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” — Mark 10:45

Questions for Discussion/Application:

  • Consider taking time to read Romans 10:9-10 out loud. What initial insights or observations of the text do you have?
  • During Holy Week, how did the Lord meet you? How were you encouraged and your eyes drawn to Christ in your personal times with the Lord and/or during our gathering together as a church on Good Friday and Easter?
  • Have someone read out loud the lyrics to the hymn “Man of Sorrows”

    1 Man of sorrows what a name
    for the Son of God, who came
    ruined sinners to reclaim:
    Hallelujah, what a Savior!

    2 Bearing shame and scoffing rude,
    in my place condemned he stood,
    sealed my pardon with his blood:
    Hallelujah, what a Savior!

    3 Guilty, helpless, lost were we;
    blameless Lamb of God was he,
    sacrificed to set us free:
    Hallelujah, what a Savior!

    4 He was lifted up to die;
    “It is finished” was his cry;
    now in heaven exalted high:
    Hallelujah, what a Savior!

    5 When he comes, our glorious King,
    all his ransomed home to bring,
    then anew this song we’ll sing:
    Hallelujah, what a Savior!

  • What lyrics in the hymn above particularly stand out to you and encourage you?
  • On Easter Sunday, Christ rose from the dead. Ponder together — what was the significance of that event?
  • Consider taking time to pray asking the Lord that He would continue to help us to grow in our understanding and amazement at what Christ accomplished for us through His death and resurrection.
